KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Deuce Roberson, of Northeastern State, caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Donnie Smith, of Northeastern State, in overtime, and Northeastern State beat Truman State University 31-24 in football Saturday at Stokes Stadium.
Troy Nguyen, of Northeastern State, kicked the extra point for the final margin.
Smith, of Northeastern State, threw three touchdown passes. Jordan Schelling, of Northeastern State, scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter. Cam Jackson, of Northeastern State, caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Smith, of Northeastern State, later in the first. Nguyen, of Northeastern State, added a 21-yard field goal in the second.
Diego Perez, of Truman State, kicked a 33-yard field goal in the second. Madden Irving, of Truman State, scored on a 2-yard run and a 1-yard run before halftime to tie it at 17-17.
Jackson Overton, of Truman State, caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Hair, of Truman State, in the third for a 24-17 lead. Malachi Butler, of Northeastern State, caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Smith, of Northeastern State, to tie it at 24-24. Both teams missed field goals in the fourth. Nguyen, of Northeastern State, missed from 29 yards, and Perez, of Truman State, missed from 38.
Smith, of Northeastern State, completed 27 of 36 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns. Roberson, of Northeastern State, caught eight passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Jackson, of Northeastern State, caught eight for 81 yards and a touchdown. Schelling, of Northeastern State, ran eight times for 23 yards and a touchdown. Jaylen Thompson, of Northeastern State, ran nine times for 25 yards.
Hair, of Truman State, completed 14 of 23 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. Irving, of Truman State, ran 26 times for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Kel Battle, of Truman State, caught three passes for 56 yards. Overton, of Truman State, caught five for 26 yards and a touchdown. Hair, of Truman State, ran 11 times for 54 yards.
Kale Charboneau, of Northeastern State, had 16 tackles. Jordan Tolbert, of Northeastern State, had 11. Michael Parker, of Northeastern State, had nine. Bryant Pool, of Truman State, Connor Beerman, of Truman State, and Alijah Jackman, of Truman State, each had eight tackles. Jack Weltha, of Truman State, had seven. Kilpatrick, of Northeastern State, and Reese Carter, of Northeastern State, each intercepted a pass.
Northeastern State outgained Truman State 400-315 with 336 passing yards. Truman State rushed for 201 yards and held the ball for 33:17.
