A Macon man is being held on a $20,000 cash-only bond after Macon County prosecutors charged him with a class D felony of possession of a controlled substance.
Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Meisner filed a three-count complaint. Jon R. Teter, Macon, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony; trespass in the first degree, a class B misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia with a prior drug offense, a class A misdemeanor.
The Macon County Sheriff's Deputy James Ligon wrote that deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle, that Teter was located inside a residence without the resident's permission, and that while being taken into custody he possessed a glass pipe containing a white substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. The complaint charges first-degree trespass.
Possession of a controlled substance is punishable by imprisonment for one to seven years, a county jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to $10,000, or both imprisonment and a fine. Trespass in the first degree is punishable by up to six months in the county jail, a fine of up to $1,000, or both. Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia with a prior drug offense is punishable by up to one year in the county jail, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.
A bond appearance hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 14 before Judge Burks in Macon.
A criminal charge is an accusation. Teter is presumed innocent.
