William Henry received his Eagle Scout charge, medal, and rank Saturday in a ceremony at Mt. Salem Baptist Church, the same church whose historic sign he restored to earn the honor.

Henry, a member of Troop 179, rebuilt and beautified the church’s sign for his Eagle Scout service project. His mother pinned the Eagle medal on him during the court of honor. He passed his board of review in May, on her birthday.
Eagle is the highest rank in the Scouts BSA program of Scouting America. It requires at least 21 merit badges, a service project, and a demonstrated record of Scout Spirit and leadership. Henry earned 67 merit badges, more than triple the minimum. Only about six percent of Scouts BSA members reach the rank.
He also served in multiple troop leadership positions, in the Gawi Chapter of the Order of the Arrow, and as an officer of the Nampa-Tsi Lodge. The Order of the Arrow is Scouting’s national honor society; Gawi Chapter serves the Black Diamond District of Great Rivers Council.
Henry is a member of the Macon High School band.
