Shelbina man, Centralia woman charged with meth possession after Macon traffic stop

A Shelbina man and his passenger are each charged with a felony after a Macon police sergeant reported finding methamphetamine during a traffic stop Wednesday, according to Macon County court records.

Ron M. Carter, the driver, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. He also faces two misdemeanors: possession of drug paraphernalia and failing to yield or slow for a stationary emergency vehicle.

Alorie D. Nichols, of Centralia, the front-seat passenger, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nichols' bond is set at $10,000 cash only, and she is to have no contact with Carter. The same bond, with no contact with Nichols, was set for Carter.

Macon police Sgt. Andre Williams wrote in the probable cause statements that he tried to stop a black Dodge with expired license plates on North Missouri Street.

The car kept going after he turned on his emergency lights and then his siren, making several turns before eventually stopping in the First State Community Bank parking lot.

Williams wrote that Carter consented to a search of the car, where a black pouch behind the driver's seat held a baggie of a crystal-like substance, a glass bulb with white residue, a red straw with white residue, and a scale. The substance, the bulb, and the straw all tested positive for methamphetamine.

Nichols had warrants for her arrest, according to her PC statement. Asked whether she had anything on her, she said she did, and a dollar bill with a crystal-like substance and a red straw with white residue were removed from her bra. Both tested positive for methamphetamine.

Both were arrested, Williams wrote.

According to the complaints, the class D felony carries one to seven years in prison.

Charges are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
