Sawyer wins La Plata mayor’s race; school board elects three

Dustin “Dusty” Sawyer won the La Plata mayoral election Tuesday night, running unopposed and receiving 145 of 147 votes cast, with two write-in ballots, according to unofficial results from the Macon County Clerk’s office.

In the La Plata R-II School District board race for three seats, Brenton Travis led with 188 votes, followed by Savanna Hagar with 184, Amy B. Crawford with 140, and Zach Robinson with 136. Travis, Hagar, and Crawford take the three available positions based on unofficial totals.

Sawyer also appeared on the ballot in a separate single-seat La Plata R-II School Board race, receiving 230 of 235 votes cast.

In city alderman races, Alvin Peavler defeated Scott Groseclose in Ward 1, 46 to 35. Trent Perry ran without a named opponent in Ward 2, receiving 24 votes; five ballots were cast as write-ins.

All results are unofficial pending certification by the Macon County Clerk.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Dustin Sawyer was among the winners of the three-seat La Plata R-II School Board race. Sawyer won a separate single-seat race on the same ballot. The three-seat race was won by Brenton Travis, Savanna Hagar, and Amy B. Crawford. The La Plata Record regrets the error.
