La Plata voters will decide local races and a governance question when they head to the polls on April 7.
Mayor and City Offices
Dustin “Dusty” Sawyer is running unopposed for mayor. Scott Groseclose and Alvin Peavler are competing for the Ward 1 alderman seat. Trent Perry is running unopposed for Ward 2 alderman.
La Plata R-II School Board
Four candidates are competing for three seats on the La Plata R-II Board of Education: Savanna Hagar, Zach Robinson, Amy B. Crawford, and Brenton Travis. All seats are three-year terms.
Dustin “Dusty” Sawyer is also running unopposed for a one-year unexpired term on the school board.
Proposition 1
Voters will be asked whether La Plata should be authorized to forgo annual elections if the number of candidates who file for a particular office equals the number of positions to be filled. A “yes” vote would mean that if races are uncontested, the city would not have to hold the election for that office — saving the city money on election costs.
How to Vote
Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on April 7. No-excuse absentee voting runs through April 6 at the county clerk’s office. Bring a valid photo ID.
